Material Experiments 4
Looking for ways to expand experimentation of cyanotype as a medium for my photography I turned to fabric; having developed an array of samples I experimented with quilting, using all failed exposures as secondary cyanotype panels as to reduce wastage.
Final quilt hung in the 'What Have You Seen?' group exhibition in Brew.
Exposure setup for toning quilting thread.
The thread used in thee quilting was also cyanotyped in irregular intervals to create a variegated thread.
I stared the process of assembling the initial quilt block however, in creating the quarter square triangle sections, realised that too much fabric would be lost to seams to keep the full cyanotyped image in the centre of the block. This lead to reworking the quilt design to accommodate these smaller blocks.
Testing exposure times and wash out method for cyanotype on fabric. All unsuccessful exposures were used in the final quilt to avoid wastage.
